A modern love story opens the door to a long ago love and a shared history…
It is 1880. Celia Robertson is a financially independent young black woman living in her adopted family’s London townhouse for the season. Celia and her childhood friend, Edward Langdon, have recently fallen in love but have kept it a secret from Ed’s grandmother, Lady Benwick, who is also Celia’s guardian.
Although they have always existed, relationships between different classes and races are often disapproved of across all levels of society. Ed believes love can overcome anything. However, despite Celia’s comfortable middle-class upbringing, she is doubtful and procrastinates over accepting his secret marriage proposal.
Fate soon intervenes when old flame Nathan, the son of a wealthy Sierra Leone merchant, returns to London from New York. Celia is conflicted as dormant feelings are stirred up.
Meanwhile, Lady Benwick and Ed are hiding deeply disturbing moral and financial predicaments from Celia in order to protect their family’s aristocratic legacy.
Little do the couple realise the intricate web of manipulation Lady Benwick is weaving behind the scenes...
I am a business educator, author, speaker, and avid reader of many genres.
I’ve been a big fan of romantic sagas and historical romance fiction since my mother unknowingly introduced me to Mills & Boon in my early teens by not reading her library books swiftly enough.
In terms of being able to bridge the gap and showcase the multicultural aspect of Britain from an authentic historical perspective, my first story in this trilogy, A Shared History, was quite an exciting and challenging project to take on, especially in terms of research.
Subsequent books in the series have proven just as interesting a challenge to research. I have included a recommended book list to reflect the depth of historical research required.
I hope you enjoy reading the first book in the Black Victorians Series!…
